Tips for Acing Your Next Virtual Interview

Technology is making everything easy, even within the recruitment industry. You’re probably familiar with video calls and the requirements. But when it comes to a virtual interview, the rules are slightly different. You need to find a tranquil environment, and for your sake, put on some pants.

Most companies prefer to use Skype for their virtual interviews; others might prefer to stick to Google Hangout. The trick to acing your next virtual meeting is to keep your techs performing at a topnotch level. That includes investing in an excellent mic, working on your body language, and finding a great environment. Here are some tips that would help.

1. Test Your Technology

About a day to your virtual interview, you need to ensure that your techs are working correctly for the best experience. You don’t want a situation where the mic is noisy, or perhaps a poor network connection. If during the test and you discover that the picture is grainy, replace it with a new one immediately. On the day of the interview, test your network connections and equipment again to be confident you’re ready.

2. Dress To Impress

When it comes to projecting your professionalism, it goes beyond your email address or username. Your dressing comes with its advantage, and please dress as though you’re dressing for an in-person interview. Most applicants often neglect to wear pants, since those would be invisible to the camera. Don’t make that mistake! You have to be all in, even by wearing shoes. Dress professional and straightforward, avoid anything distracting.

3. Your Set

If you want to ace that interview, then you need to take significant interest in your environment. If you have a home office, please get in there and make sure everything is in order and neat. Also, ensure nothing is distracting in your background. If you can afford a dark solid background, that would be best. That way, the focus is on you. Furthermore, you need to make sure there is no noise or people. Utilize areas that look more businesslike and have your interview there. Also take pictures of the view as it would show from a camera and check to be sure everything is in place.

4. Your Body Language

In a video call, a handshake is impossible. But you can improvise by communicating through your body language. The best way to go about this is to sit upright with confidence, a smile, and facing the camera at eye level. Try as much as possible to keep your focus on the camera. Also, eliminate potential distractions.

5. Practice!

Before the interview, it is paramount that you practice a lot in front of a camera. You don’t need to sound monotonic, neither do you have to be perfect. Through practice, you will be able to identify your mistakes and correct them. If you aren’t being honest with yourself, you can get a friend or family member to help assess your performance.

Conclusion

Acing a virtual interview is possible with lots of preparation. The worse thing that can happen is for your equipment to start experiencing a glitch, which is an automatic failure. Prepare, practice, build your confidence, and ace that interview like a boss. With the Jobalytics plugin, you will be able to make your resume compatible with the job description. I love this! I have found online interviews to be more efficient for job seeking. It feels like there is greater agency and space to prepare.

For me, the preparation has been the key for success. Preparing a good environment and good internet connection and good energy through clothing and body language. Connecting to the meeting 10 minutes early to work out any issues before starting.
